Our bus broke down while were in the water. The drivers decided to transfer everything (including passengers) from one bus to the second bus...meaning two busloads were unsafely and uncomortably crammed into one bus for the ride home. The turtle employees who transferred everything forgot my brand new pair of sandals in the back of the bus. When I brought it to the driver's attention he assured me that they would get them to me. He took my info down and promised to call. It has been 4 days- and I hace received no such call despite my numerous messages (they have no actual live employees working in an office) and also 2 emails.
Starting off, The overall experience was pretty solid. If you go into the experience expecting something big and fancy, stay at home. This adventure is meant to be relax, fun, and enjoyable experience. Consider it to be an all day affair, fun for all ages. Our group had seven people and the first order of business, Shane made us feel extremely comfortable. He greeted us, told us the rules and made sure we didn't need anything special. The tubes were sturdy and comfortable, we had no issues with them. Our tubing ride was supposed to be approx 2-3 hours depending on the current. It ended up being 4.5 (yes, we got more for our money) LOL. The waters were super calm, which is what caused the ride to take longer than it did. When we were almost to the exit point, Shane and his crew were there waiting on us and helped getting the tubes out of the water. The ride back to the lot was safe, quick, and worry free.
Reserved a bus for the night with this company only to have them cancel our reservation when a larger reservation became available. Reached out to the owner who would not return my calls. Beware
2. We had a group of 4, and the raft holds 3 people. Rather than give us two 3 person rafts, they gave us a 3 person and a 1 person raft lashed on, leaving one person to sit out on a rather small raft. There were not that many people, so I don't see why we couldn't have gotten 2 rafts for our group.
6. About 8 of the side seats on the bus are not secured, at all, to the floor. In the event of a crash or rollover, there would literally be flying furniture.
4. The main blunder. Our "guide" started behind all 3 of the groups, but with an hour remaining, passed all of the groups leaving us behind. If something happened, we would have to wait for a long time unless someone stopped to help us from I-70. If our tube had a leak, we would be SOL until they figured it out and came back.
People, stop the madness. You are making it out to be WAY worse than it actually is... take a BIG chill pill! You have to remember, this place has been in existence for 7+ years and is growing, you have a guy with a vision, and he is trying to make it happen!
Shane lets do review the facts of the situation. Yes we do have a common employee and I did ask him if he could get me a deal. He conversed with you and explained to me that he would not be able to get me a deal. I told him that I understood, that I appreciated him trying, and that I would take the reservation at regular price. If you already had a reservation for that weekend and/or he is not allowed to make reservations, wouldn't you have stopped him right then. I specifically asked your employee if he was able to make reservations which he confirmed that he was. So by acting like this was some sort of rouge reservation you are the one who is being untruthful. He put the reservation in the system and it remained in the system for over a month before you canceled it. Again if this was a problem why was it not addressed in April when the reservation was made instead of June? I was never notified of the cancellation, I only found out when I went to book the bus for Friday night as well. I would have preferred to handle this over the phone but you opted not to return my phone calls.
Overall, it was a fun experience. Too bad it's 2.5 hours from where I live in Denver, cause I would definitely do it again this summer. I am sure we will try to make it back next summer and bring the rest of the crew.
I am incredibly frustrated by the lack of attention to personal belongings and also the awful bus ride home. Oddly, they closed the bar down so the cold beers we were looking forward to after a day on the river did not exist...only grumpy hot and tired people. This was ABSOLUTELY not worth the money and now I am missing my favorite shoes. THANKS for stealing from me, turtle bus. I lived in the valley a long time, and this is not how you treat people.
Here was my day:
Response to the owner
1. The bus was late picking us up in Avon.
Thanks Shane and Crew for a good time, we enjoyed!
5. Because our guide passed us, the group behind us did not go nearly fast enough. They said that they would get stuck in an eddy and not do anything about it, and just sit there and laugh and drink. Eventually they just pulled off to the side and hung out. If the guide was actually, GUIDING, they would not have been able to fall an HOUR behind. So my group and the first group waited for over an hour for the last group to arrive so we could take the bus back.
7. We never signed any waiver about anything. Personally, I never saw anything even implied they were not liable for injury. A more litigious group of people would sue them for some of these blunders.
We have been on over 10 rivers with many different company's and this is the best.
3. For our Groupon deal, we were given a drink voucher. It did not say what type of drink it would be, but when we asked for our drink, our guide told us that a drink was not included. Upon some insisting, he went to the bus and got us a partially filled gallon of water. When we later looked at the water, we found sentiment floating in it, as if it was taken from the river. This was our "drink", murky river water in a jug.
